The National Society of the Sons of Utah Pioneers in cooperation with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers is pleased to invite all to listen to Ralph Montgomery, a local author and humanitarian as he addresses the public at the Senior Citizens Center on February 24, 2011 at 7pm.

Ralph B. Montgomery, DDS, a Heber Valley native, was born in 1928. After graduating from Wa-satch High School, he attended Brigham Young University. Discovering an interest in dentistry, he entered the Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri. Immediately upon graduating from the University of Washington, Ralph entered military service and served as a Captain in the Air Force from 1954 to 1956. Upon returning to civilian life, he continued to pursue his love of dentistry for the next 40 years.

Along with his love of dentistry, Ralph has a deep passion for serving his community. This is demonstrated quite clearly by his many years of service and dedication in Rotary International – an organization devoted to bringing together business and professional leaders to provide hu-manitarian service and peace in the world. In 1959, Ralph served as president of the Rotary Club of Murray, Utah. He then chartered and sponsored the Heber City Rotary in 1962. Finally in 1988, Ralph was elected as District Governor of Rotary International.

Ralph has also founded many service groups dedicated to providing dental care to those in need. Some of those groups include the Palawan Dental/Medical Mobil Clinic in the Philippines and the Salt Lake Donated Detail Services. Ralph has spent over 20 years providing free dental services to the poor and homeless around the world. His love of servicing others has made him the recipient for many awards including Governor Michael Levitt’s “Point of Light Award as well as President George W. Bush’s “Point of Light Award”.

Ralph has written two books during his life. The first, “Palawan, An Adventure in Service”, and more recently, “Heber Valley Roots”.

Married to the former Shirley Wright of Charleston, Utah, Ralph has 5 children, 17 grandchil-dren and 13 great grandchildren.

We encourage all to attend. There is no cost and refreshments will be served.

Here at the Sons of Utah Pioneers we couldn’t be more excited for 2011! It’s shaping to be a great year to honor our heritage, pioneer or otherwise, starting with a presentation about our wonderful mountain valley from our own Mayor.

We’ve asked Mayor David Phillips to speak to our chapter this Thursday January 28 at 7pm at the Senior Citizen Center. He will be giving a presentation about Heber Valley to include some history, the status of Heber City now and where things are going in the near future.

This is a rare and unique opportunity to hear from our Mayor in such a setting and should provide a great forum to address any questions or comments you might have about the “State of the City”.

So be sure to mark your calendars – should prove to be an entertaining evening. All are invited to attend and light refreshments will be served afterwords.
